Connecting Residents to Resources

211 Maryland is a 1-stop shop for essential resources such as food, housing, transportation, home utility support, childcare services, tax help and so much more. Mid-shore residents can call 2-1-1 around the clock and talk to a specialist who will find resources to help them.

The Mid Shore Health Improvement Coalition made a goal to raise awareness about Maryland's most comprehensive health and social support resource database, 2-1-1 Maryland. Through a disparities grant from Caroline County Health Department, the Coalition awarded mini-grants to Grace Street Recovery, Home Ports, Building African American Minds, and New Walk Community Church to provide on the ground 211 MD outreach to people living in census tracts with a high social vulnerability index. Since the launch of the "What's the 211, Hon?" campaign in February, these four organizations held 212 outreach events reaching approximately 3,500 people.

A year-to-year comparison shows a 61% increase in call volume since the launch of the campaign in February, 2024.

How the Coalition spread the word about 211:

  • 86 Retractable banners were distributed to partner organizations including UM Shore Regional Health, Choptank Community Health System, libraries, social service agencies, health departments, food pantries and more;

  • 10,600 211 flyers in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole, were provided to 33 partner agencies for distribution at community events;

  • 334, 30-second radio commercials aired;

  • 7 facebook campaigns reached over 20,000 people;

  • A regional calendar of health events was created midshorehealth.org/events Those who text MidShore to 898-211 receive a text message each month with a link to the calendar;
